I have accumulated a broken Scandinavian rocker with a large caned back section that I’ve had for a long time, and more recently, 3 small dinette rattan chairs from the curb, so I now have four pieces I need to re-do the woven caning on with a splice(I think it is called). After looking at some videos the actual process seems doable, but:
I am getting overwhelmed looking on eBay and Amazon for supplies. I’m sure some here have experience with these types of repairs I was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations of your go-tos when it comes to buying replacement caning.
I’ve seen it priced by the inch like fabric and by the square piece (like to do one chair seat). I don’t want to overpay but I don’t even know what a good price is.
Do you get it at a hardware store or craft store? Is there good pricing on Etsy? I’ve seen ads for fabric stores with it too. Or should I wait until someone is selling a “lot” of it on eBay?
I will continue to research but if you can throw any “I always find good deals here” or “anything under price/unit is usually a good deal” info my way I will feel a lot better about my purchase.
I was also thinking of using a piece of the caning from the rocker to do one of my small chair seats… good or bad idea to reuse caning like this?
Edit: added line breaks but I am on mobile so I apologize if I ruined it lol
